Dr. Lewis E. Johnson to present at 9th Symposium for Optical Interconnect in Datacenters

NLM Photonics’ Chief Scientific Officer and Co-Founder, Dr. Lewis E. Johnson, will present at the prestigious European Conference on Communications (ECOC) in Glasgow, Scotland, in October. His talk will focus on recent advances in hybrid organic electro-optic (EO) modulation, highlighting NLM’s recent advances and key international collaborations in Europe.

Lewis will give his invited talk on “Transatlantic Partnerships for Hybrid Electro-Optic Modulation” on Tuesday, October 3, at ECOC. He will be available for questions and other inquiries before and after his talk.

Hybrid organic EO modulators allow for lower power and improved bandwidth in communications (datacom, telecom, and satellite), sensing (electric field, LIDAR, and microwave/mmWave signal processing), and hybrid electronic-photonic digital computing. NLM’s success has been interwoven with developing global partnerships with other photonics companies, chip foundries, and other parties interested in emerging technologies.

Related work from our collaborations will be featured in two other presentations. Adrian Schwarzenberger of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology will present “First Demonstration of a Silicon-Organic Hybrid (SOH) Modulator Based on a Long-Term-Stable Crosslinked Electro-Optic Material,” which uses our HLD material and includes our team members, Lewis, Director of Process Development Dr. Scott Hammond, Director of Materials Development Dr. Delwin L. Elder, and Senior Research Scientist Dr. Kevin O’Malley, as co-authors on the paper. Dr. David Moor at ETH-Zürich will also present “Modulation Enhancement Through Resonant Microwave-Photonic Co-Design.” This talk features our experimental BAHX material and includes Lewis and Delwin as co-authors, as well as co-authorship from our partners, Polariton Technologies and the University of Washington, on the paper.

Our CEO Gerard Zytnicki, Board Member Brad Booth, and Scott will also attend for learning and networking with industry partners, friends, and peers. Please reach out to us to schedule a time to chat.

See you there!
