Summary: NLM Photonics is seeking a Semiconductor Process Engineer to preform deposition, etching, poling, and metrology processes on silicon photonics and related platforms to improve fabrication processes for silicon-organic hybrid modulators and related technologies. This primarily on-site position involves extensive independent cleanroom work as well as collaboration with other NLM researchers and engineers. The position requires developing, performing, and documenting semiconductor processes using both standard and custom instrumentation. The position requires on-site laboratory and cleanroom work in Seattle 3-5 days per week, depending on business needs, and other duties are flexible as to location. Up to 10% travel (domestic and international) may be required for customer and partner site visits.
Job Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Perform standard nanofabrication processes including spin coating and use of physical and chemical vapor deposition techniques and wet and/or dry etching.
- Perform metrology on samples including organic thin films to assess thickness and film quality.
- Perform custom process steps related to obtaining high electro-optic activity from organic materials.
- Work independently in cleanroom and laboratory environments after training in relevant processes and safety procedures.
- Maintain a safe workplace and follow and contribute to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Analyze data from processes and metrology and present results and conclusions to internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with internal and external multidisciplinary teams including chemists, material scientists, process engineers, optical design engineers, fabrication engineers, packaging engineers, and applications engineers to develop and scale manufacturing processes.
- Engage with US and international private-sector customers and US government customers, including appropriate security practices for proprietary and/or export-controlled information.
- Develop technical documentation for internal and external use.
- Develop new Intellectual Property related to process technology for manufacturing hybrid organic modulators and photonic integrated circuits.
