SEATTLE, WA — December 10, 2025 — NLM Photonics, a leader in hybrid organic (OEO) technology, today announces the hiring of Varughese Mathew as Vice President of Sales. Mathew, a global business development leader with over 25 years of experience spanning optical communications, data switching, and network data centers, will work closely with NLM researchers, partners, and customers to cultivate commercial-scale projects leveraging NLM’s breakthrough silicon organic hybrid (SOH) technology.

Mathew has worked closely with key stakeholders across the data center ecosystem, including foundries, networking hardware manufacturers, optical interconnect suppliers, and hyperscale customers. His deep understanding of the market’s needs and challenges enables him to lead partner and customer collaborations that support mutual value.

“The photonics industry has reached a very sensitive moment. As data rates exceed 200G, existing silicon-based electro-optic (EO) technologies can no longer support data center needs,” says Mathew. “NLM’s SOH technology has the best manufacturability outlook of any emerging EO alternative. I strongly believe that NLM’s technology will deliver the balance of performance, scalability, and cost the industry needs.”

Mathew has occupied numerous sales and business development leadership roles, most recently as Senior Director, Business Development for Intel’s Silicon Photonics Products Division. He has an established track record of bringing emerging technologies into the mainstream, resulting in exponential growth.

As Director of Sales for Source Photonics U.S.A., Mathew helped reposition the company for launch into the nascent data center market, successfully executing key supplier partnerships with major hyperscaler accounts, growing revenues exponentially to over $100M in the following five years, and triggering substantial shareholder value for the company. As Vice President of Business Development for Edgecore, his efforts helped the company break into the expanded data center, enterprise, Telco/CSP hardware markets with its open-source switches, developing a three-year growth pipeline in excess of $300M.

Brad Booth, CEO of NLM Photonics, commented, “NLM has proven that our hybrid organic electro-optic technology works. Now, we must focus on removing barriers for adoption in the industry. Varughese will be instrumental in enhancing our partnerships and customer base to make NLM’s SOH technology available for the next generation of AI data centers.”
